Pre-Order Now Available!

I wasn't kidding in my last post when I said my new book was coming soon! His Assistant is my 30th (!!!) book, and the pre-order is available now on Amazon! It goes live in just a few short days, on November 28th. I'm so excited to bring you this low-angst opposites attract love story!

Coming Soon!

I just finished writing the first draft of Harper and Phoenix's story, which was set up at the end of my last book, Second Nature. It was originally going to be called Second Thoughts, but nah, there are no second thoughts here. :) So instead, I've changed the name to His Assistant.

Here's a look at the cover, by designer Angsty G.

That model is exactly how I pictured Phoenix, my main character!

If all goes well, my team and I should be able to move through edits quickly, and I'm planning to make it available the last weekend of November on Amazon. I also hope to do a pre-order if time allows. I'll update this blog with more information as soon as things are nailed down.

Finally, here's a peek at the rough draft of the blurb for His Assistant. It might change a bit by the final version, but you get the idea. :)

I knew going to work for movie star and party boy Harper Royce was a mistake.

It was a bigger mistake to sleep with him, but here we are.

At least this situation is temporary. I’m on the verge of a major breakthrough with my musical career, and then my days of working as a personal assistant are over. As long as I don’t fall for Harper, this should all work out just fine.

If only he wasn’t drop-dead gorgeous, but I can resist a pretty face. When he starts showing me his vulnerable side, though? Well, now I’m in trouble.

This light-hearted, opposites attract gay romance features a spoiled Hollywood A-lister, his long-suffering assistant, and a loopy chicken. It’s set in the world of Alexa Land’s Firsts and Forever and His Chance Series, but it absolutely can be read as a stand-alone.

Each book can be read as a stand-alone, or they can be enjoyed in order.

What's Next? You Tell Me

I'm happily working my way through Second Thoughts, which is the light, funny story of a personal assistant (Phoenix) and a movie star (Harper, introduced in my last book). I hope to have it for you in November if all goes according to plan.

The thing that's a little odd is that, for the first time in my seven-year career, I don't know what I want to write next.

I'm very much a "write what inspires me" author. It just doesn't work for me to randomly plan ahead to write a certain character at a certain time. I need to have that spark, that "a-ha moment" where the next story clicks into place for me.

That's why it took me ages to write Gabriel's story. I had to wait for it to click, which it finally did when one of my readers gave me a great idea for his love interest (the result of that is Second Nature, my most recent release).

So, if there's a story/character/couple you've been wishing for, now is a really good time to throw it at me. You never know what might be the thing that makes me shout, "Yes! That's my next book!" Emails are always welcome at AlexaLandWrites at gmail, and I also encourage you to join the discussion in my Facebook reader's group.

September Check-In

September was a challenging month. On the first day of school, a fire broke out on the edge of town and we were put on standby to evacuate. The fire ended up traveling north, away from my town, and it decimated two neighboring communities. The damage it did is truly heartbreaking, and it's going to be tough for those communities to rebuild. Several lives, over 2,375 homes, and 100 businesses were lost. These are small towns, so a huge percentage of people were affected.

I got lucky because my town and my home were spared, but that scared the hell out of me. I'm a single mom who lives with chronic pain and mobility issues, and all of a sudden I was faced with the possibility of having to evacuate and potentially losing everything. We were on standby to leave for days, because it took a while to get the fire under control, and conditions were perfect for additional fires to break out. My stress level was through the roof, and to make matters worse, the air quality here was so hazardous from the smoke that we couldn't open a window or set foot outside.

Facing something like that really makes you evaluate your priorities. All I cared about was getting my kid, my cat, and my dog out of the house and getting us all to safety. The only item I wanted to take along was my laptop, because that's where all the books I've written are stored, and it's what allows me to continue my writing career, which means the world to me. Everything else is just stuff.

Before the fires, I'd gotten off to a great start on my next book. It's called Second Thoughts, and it's a fun, lighthearted story about a movie star and his personal assistant. Now that things have settled down, I've been trying to get the book flowing again.

Like I said, we were lucky. But that was truly one of the most stressful times of my life.

Pre-order Now Available!

My latest book, Second Nature, is available for pre-order and will release on August 29th. This is Gabriel's story. He's a character I introduced in my Firsts and Forever Series about four years ago, so his HEA has been a long time coming!

Here's the description that appears on Amazon:

The last time I saw Gabriel, he was putting me on a bus and sending me to some relatives I’d never met, with the hope of a fresh start after rehab.

That was four years ago.

Now he’s back in my life. I’ve wanted him for years, while he’s always thought of me as just a friend. This is my one shot at turning our friendship into so much more.

But how do I convince him I’m the man he needs, and not the broken boy he used to know?

Second Nature is book two in Alexa Land’s His Chance Series, which is a spinoff of her best-selling Firsts and Forever Series. Firsts and Forever readers will recognize some familiar faces, but this gay romance can be read as a stand-alone.

Second Nature Update

I'm still working on Second Nature, book two in my new His Chance Series, which is a Firsts and Forever Series spin-off. I'm hoping to have it out in late August, and I'll let you know when that date gets nailed down.

In the meantime, here's a look at the cover featuring Riley, who we met in Second Act, and my first pass at a blurb:

Update

I've been hard at work on Second Nature, the next book in my His Chance series. If you've read Second Act, the first book in the spinoff series, then you know this upcoming book belongs to Riley and Gabriel.

They've been an absolute joy to write! Despite the fact that they both have a lot of darkness in their past, it's a sweet, gentle love story. I've been quarantined since early March, since several members of my family in high risk groups and really can't be exposed to Covid-19. With all that added stress and worry, what I really want to write (and read and watch) right now are positive, low-angst stories that let me escape reality for a few hours, so that's where this story is going.

I love the fact that the characters from my work in progress are in San Francisco right now, and I'm going to be bringing in some characters from my Firsts and Forever series. That always feels like a homecoming to me. We'll be checking in with Sawyer and Alastair from Worlds Away, and Zachary and TJ from Who I Used to Be because they fit perfectly into the story. I conducted a survey in my Facebook readers' group and asked who else they'd like to see, and Christian and Shea from Against the Wall won so they'll be a part of this book as well.

As far as an estimated release date, Second Nature should be out in late August. I'll post with a better estimate when I get closer to the end of the first draft.

Stay safe and be well, friends!

Second Act is LIVE!!

After 8 days stuck in limbo, Second Act is finally live on Amazon! This age gap, opposites attract romance begins my new His Chance Series, which is set in the same world as my Firsts and Forever and Castaways series. You don’t need to be familiar with any of those books to enjoy this one, but long-time readers will recognize some familiar characters in supporting roles.

Here’s the blurb:

After pursuing my big break in Hollywood for more than a decade, I’ve finally landed the role of a lifetime. The only downside--it happened just as sweet, gorgeous Lorenzo and I were taking the first tentative steps from friendship to so much more. Our brand-new relationship barely had a chance to get off the ground, and now the pressures of my new-found success are coming at us from every angle.

Can I really have it all? Or will chasing fame and fortune end up costing me the man of my dreams?

The ebook is for sale on Amazon and available on Kindle Unlimited, and the paperback will go live in just a few days. Here are the US and international links:

Coming Soon

Second Act was uploaded to Amazon on April 28th, and now it's just a waiting game to see when it goes live. I'll post the link here as soon as it's available.

Follow-up:

It's now April 30th and the book is still listed as "in review" on my Amazon page. There's no way of knowing when Amazon will actually get to it, so all we can do is wait and hope it won't be much longer.

Follow-up #2:

It's May 3rd now, and the book is still showing as "in review" on my Amazon page. I contacted Amazon customer service, but they don't have an answer on how long it'll be before it goes live. I'll post an update as soon as I have some news.

Here's the blurb while we wait:

Cover Reveal

My work in progress is called Second Act, and it'll be out in late April (exact date to be announced).

Here's an early look at the cover, which is by designer Angsty G. This book begins a series set in the Firsts and Forever/Castaways universe. That's Will on the cover, who we met in Keeping Secrets. Each book is written as a stand-alone, but longtime readers will recognize some familiar characters in supporting roles.

Checking In

Apologies for slacking on my blog lately!

I've been in lockdown with my teenager for over four weeks now, but I'm adapting to this new normal and have been working on a book called Second Act. This is Will and Lorenzo's story. They're two characters we met briefly in The Castaways Series.

Will is around 30, and he's Beck's friend from Keeping Secrets. He's been trying to launch his acting career for a decade, and is ready to give up at the start of the story.

Lorenzo is around 40, and he's a widowed veterinarian who's not sure if he's ready to move on. He's Ren's friend, and we met him in Starting Over.

These two just sort of gravitated together, and they jumped the line in terms of all the stories I'm planning to write. :) I love their sweetness, and the fact that this is a very gentle, low-angst love story. It's what I need to be writing in these uncertain times, and I hope it'll bring you happiness when reading it.

The book should be out at the end of April, and I plan to have a cover reveal for you in just a couple of days if everything goes to plan.

Until then, please take care and stay healthy.
